SAM County Stakeholder Consultations

February 6, 2024
11 Counties

1. SAM County Stakeholder Consultations

Co-creating the future of school-based agri economies. This pivotal event brought together key stakeholders from county departments, school administrations, and ministries (including MoALD and MoE) across 11 counties. The primary objective was to collaboratively design and kickstart the School Agricentric Model (SAM).

These consultations were instrumental in co-designing practical production hubs within schools, establishing efficient aggregation systems for agricultural produce, and piloting school-based feeding programs. This collaborative approach ensures that SAM is not just a theoretical framework but a community-led agricultural transformation initiative, directly addressing food security and economic empowerment at the grassroots level. The insights gathered from these diverse stakeholders are foundational to building a sustainable and impactful model for agricultural education and economic development in Kenya.

The discussions delved deep into localized agricultural needs and opportunities, allowing for tailored solutions that resonate with the unique contexts of each of the 11 participating counties. Workshops focused on practical implementation strategies, resource mobilization, and capacity building for school staff and local farmers. Participants shared best practices, identified potential challenges, and collectively brainstormed innovative approaches to integrate agricultural education with food production and community nutrition. This multi-stakeholder engagement fostered strong partnerships, laying the groundwork for a scalable model that can be replicated across other regions, ultimately contributing to a more resilient and food-secure Kenya. The emphasis was on creating self-sustaining systems where schools become centers of agricultural excellence, providing practical skills to students while simultaneously contributing to local food supply chains and economic upliftment.
